Terms of Use

These are the rules for using Your Bible App. Using the app means you accept them. They are written in plain English, and the parts that cost you money are near the top.

The app is not on the App Store yet. These terms are published now so they are public before it is, and the date above will change if the wording does.

Who we are

Your Bible App, operated by Joel Malone (sole proprietor), Texas, USA — a sole proprietor is a one-person business. support@yourbibleapp.com. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that business, and "you" means the person using the app.

You must be 13 or older

You must be 13 or older to use Your Bible App. The app asks you to confirm your age once, the first time you open it. Under that question is the line "By continuing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use." Its App Store age rating is 13+ to match this rule. If you are under 13, you may not use the app, and you may not make an account or buy a subscription. If you answer that you are under 13, the app stops on that device and asks again about a year later. Nothing about your answer is sent to us.

We also ask the App Store. As well as asking you, the app asks the App Store for the age category Apple holds for your Apple Account. If Apple gives us one and it disagrees with your answer, Apple's category is the one we use. If Apple gives us nothing — because the sharing was declined, or because your device is too old for the feature — your own answer stands. The Privacy Policy explains what we store about it, which is a yes or a no and nothing more.

If you are 13 to 17, these terms apply to you the same way they apply to an adult, apart from one Friends rule below, and the subscription is a real agreement. We do not require a parent or guardian to agree separately, and the app has no parent-facing screen. Apple's own family controls — Ask to Buy and Screen Time — sit outside our app, on the device, and we cannot see whether a family has switched them on.

There is no messaging in this app, and there is nothing to post. The one way to connect with another user is Friends, which is off until you turn it on; its rules are below. We do not currently show adverts. We are not promising that forever; if it ever changes, these terms and the Privacy Policy change first and we will tell you before it happens. A subscription lists "No ads" as one of its benefits. Today nobody sees ads, whether they subscribe or not.

Your account

• There are no passwords. You sign in with a link sent to your e-mail address, a code texted to your phone number, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google.
• Keep control of whichever one you use. Anyone who can read your e-mail, or the texts to your phone number, can get into your account.
• Your account must always keep at least one verified way to sign in, so the last one cannot be removed.
• You can try the app without an account. That guest progress is tied to a random identifier on the device itself, so it can be lost if the app or the device is — we cannot recover it for you.
• If you are playing as a guest and then sign in to an account you already have, the guest progress is discarded. The app warns you before that happens.
• The account is yours, for you. Do not share it or sell it.

The subscription, the free trial and how you are billed

• Apple sells and bills the subscription, not us. Apple is the merchant of record — in plain words, Apple is the seller. It is charged to your Apple Account through the App Store. We never see or handle your card.
• There are two plans: Full Access, Monthly and Full Access, Annual. Both give the same things: no ads, and unlimited energy. The app shows no ads to anyone today. If we switch coins back on, a subscription also opens every study without coins; while coins are off, every study is already open to everyone.
• The price shown in the App Store before you confirm is the price that applies. On the date at the top of this page, that price is $12.99 a month for Full Access, Monthly and $99 a year for Full Access, Annual, in the United States.
• Each plan has a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. The app offers it only when Apple says your Apple Account qualifies. Apple allows one introductory offer per subscription group for each Apple Account — in plain words, a free trial, once per Apple Account — and both plans are in the same subscription group, so the trial can be taken once, on one plan or the other, and not again by deleting and reinstalling. That is Apple's rule, not ours, and Apple can change it.
• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. With a free trial, nothing is charged until the trial ends. Then the plan's price is charged, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. If you start a paid plan while a free trial is running, what is left of the trial ends then, under Apple's rules.
• It renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the plan's price, until you cancel it. It renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and Apple charges the renewal in the 24 hours before that period ends.
• You can switch between the two plans in your Apple Account's subscription settings. Apple decides when a switch takes effect and what it charges, and shows you before you confirm.
• Every unit is free to play without a subscription. Without one, units and Section Exams use energy, and when it runs out you wait for it to refill. See Energy and coins below.
• Family Sharing is not available for either plan.
• If a renewal payment fails, Apple retries it for a while and you keep the subscription's benefits during that time. If it never succeeds, the benefits end, and every unit stays free to play with energy.
• A person aged 13 to 17 can be the subscriber, on the same terms as anyone else. What a family can control about that is Apple's to decide, on the device, not ours.

Cancelling

Cancel in your device's subscription settings, or anywhere else Apple lets you manage subscriptions. The app cannot cancel an Apple subscription for you — the most it can do is send you to Apple's own screen. Neither plan can be paused, only cancelled.

When you cancel, you keep the subscription's benefits until the end of the period you already paid for. After that, your progress is kept, not deleted, and every unit stays free to play, with energy, like anyone without a subscription. Subscribe again and unlimited energy comes back.

Refunds

Apple takes the payment, so Apple handles refunds, under Apple's own refund rules — the ones published in the App Store, which apply to every app sold there. Those rules are Apple's and can change; the current ones are the ones Apple publishes. Ask Apple for one through the App Store; we cannot refund an App Store purchase ourselves, and we have no say in whether Apple grants one. If Apple does refund you, the subscription's benefits end.

Energy and coins

Energy. Units, Section Exams and practice rounds use energy, and it refills over time. A Section Exam uses a set amount when you start it. Practice rounds are switched off at the moment. A run of right answers in a unit, and finishing a unit, can give some back. How much each question screen uses, how much a Section Exam uses, how much a run or a finished unit gives back, whether a finished practice round adds any, how many practice rounds a day can add energy, and how fast energy refills, are settings we can change. While you subscribe, your energy is unlimited.

Energy has no cash value. It is not money. You cannot buy it on its own, sell it, swap it, move it to another account, or have it paid out. It ends when your account is deleted.

Coins are switched off. The app has coins, but they are not active: no unit earns coins, and no study is locked behind them. Coins you earned while they were on stay on your account, but they do nothing now. Like energy, coins have no cash value. If we switch coins back on, these terms will say how they work first.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app. There is a 30-day grace period in which tapping Keep my account, signing in again, or buying or restoring a subscription cancels the deletion; after that the account and its progress are removed and cannot be restored. The Delete your account page explains all of it, and the Privacy Policy says how long each step takes.

Deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription. Cancel that separately with Apple, or the billing continues.

What you may and may not do

You may use the app to study, on your own devices, for yourself. You may not:

• copy, republish, sell or redistribute the units, questions, explanations or other material in the app;
• extract the content in bulk — the units, or the Bible text in the Bible tab — by hand or with any automated tool, or use it to build another product or to train a model;
• take apart, decompile or reverse-engineer the app, or work around what you have paid for;
• share your account with other people or let anyone else use it;
• attack, overload, probe or interfere with the app or its servers;
• pretend to be us, or to be somebody else, anywhere the app gives you a way to type;
• use the app to break the law.

If you do any of these, we may suspend or end your access. Where we can, we will tell you why first. If we end your access for something you did, you are not owed a refund; ask Apple.

Friends

If you turn on Friends, you may connect only with people you know. You add a friend by typing their exact username and sending a request, and you become friends only if they accept. Do not send requests, or use anything you learn from Friends, to bother, threaten, harass or embarrass anyone. An adult cannot send a request to anyone 13 to 17; someone 13 to 17 can send one to an adult, and to others 13 to 17. Who counts as an adult comes from the one question about being an adult that Friends asks (see the Privacy Policy, Friends); until you answer it, Friends treats you as 13 to 17, and you cannot send a request. We have zero tolerance for abuse of other users and for objectionable content. You must be 13 or older to use Friends, as for the whole app, and you need a signed-in account. We may switch Friends off for anyone who breaks these rules, and we may not be able to tell you why.

Apart from a username, there is still nothing you can post for other people to read. Friends shows each friend your username, your stars this week, your streak, your streak together and, unless you hide them, your stats: your current and best streak, how many units you have completed, how many studies you have finished, how many with Section 1 finished and how many with Section 2 finished, your highest section, how many Section Exams you have passed, your Progress Points and your stars. A username you choose is shown to your friends unless you pick Only me, and in public places (none today) only if you pick Everyone. It must not be offensive or pretend to be us or anyone else, and we may remove it. We claim no licence over anything else you write, because there is nothing else here for anybody else to see. If we ever add a feature that changes that, these terms change first, and we will tell you.

Remove, block and report. Every friend in the app can be removed, blocked or reported, at any time and straight away. Remove ends the friendship for both of you. Block also ends any request between the two of you and stops new ones. Report blocks the person at once, which takes them off your leaderboard straight away, and sends us the reason you choose and any words you add. The person is not told. We act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours. We look at every report within 24 hours of receiving it. Where it shows abuse or objectionable content, we switch Friends off for the person reported, which removes them, and everything Friends shows of them, from every leaderboard. What your friends see, and what we keep, is in the Privacy Policy.

You can also send us an e-mail to support, a report about a question, or a report about a friend. We use each one to answer you, to fix what you told us about, or to deal with the report, and that is all.

What is in the app

The app contains Bible text and study material we write ourselves — questions, answers, explanations and the games built on them. Our own material belongs to us. Bible text is used under the terms of whoever publishes that translation, and those terms belong to them. Bible facts — who did what, where a place is, what happened when — are free for anyone to use; some translations are not, and we use only what we are allowed to. The name Your Bible App and our artwork are ours, and you may not use them without our written permission.

No translation is named on this page, and none will be until the publisher's written terms exist. When they do, this section and a copyright notice will be rewritten to match them. Some of the map data in the app also carries an attribution obligation, which appears in the app itself.

The Bible tab shows the whole Bible. Some of its translations reach us through a Bible text service, and that service's terms and the publisher's apply to that text. Each chapter of those translations ends with the translation's abbreviation, which opens its full copyright notice, and Settings lists the notices under "Bible copyrights".

The study material is for learning. It is not spiritual direction, legal advice, medical advice, or a substitute for your own reading. Where scholars disagree about something, we try to say so rather than pretend there is one answer.

If you think we have used something of yours

If you believe anything in the app infringes your copyright, write to support@yourbibleapp.com with enough detail for us to find it, and we will look. Apart from a username someone chooses, nothing that other people see in this app is written or uploaded by a user, so everything else in it is ours to check and ours to fix.

The app may change, and it may stop

We add, change and remove units, features and content. We do not promise that any particular unit, feature or translation will be there tomorrow, that the app will always be available, or that it will be free of faults. If we ever stop the service entirely, we will say so beforehand and stop taking money for it.

Suspending or ending your access

We may suspend or end your access if you break the rules above, if we are required to by law, or if keeping your account open would put other people or the service at risk. Where we can, we will tell you why, and where the reason can be fixed we will tell you how. You can end this agreement at any time by deleting your account.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind about it, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Some states do not allow those exclusions; where that is so, this paragraph applies to you only as far as the law allows.

Limit on what we owe you

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim connected with the app is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits anything that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

If you cost us money

These terms contain no indemnity. You are not promising to pay our legal costs, and we are not asking you to. If that ever changes, these terms change first and we will tell you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. That is one rule for the whole country: we do not apply different terms in different states.

These terms name no court, require no arbitration, and contain no class-action waiver. You keep whatever rights the law gives you to bring a claim.

Odds and ends

• If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands, and that part is cut back only as far as it has to be.
• If we do not enforce something straight away, that does not mean we have given it up. Anything we give up, we give up in writing.
• These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the app. Anything said anywhere else — a screenshot, a review, a marketing line — does not change them.
• You may not transfer this agreement to anybody else. We may transfer it if the business changes hands, and we will tell you if that happens.

Where we operate

The app is offered in the United States only. We make no claim that it is appropriate or available anywhere else. Using it from another country is your decision and your responsibility, including whether your own country's law allows it.

Apple

Apple is not a party to this agreement, and Apple has no responsibility for the app or its content. Apple sells and bills the subscription, and Apple's own terms cover that sale. Nothing in these terms takes away any right Apple's terms give you.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and the current version is always on this page. If a change matters to what you pay or what you get, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. A change that costs you money will never apply to a period you have already paid for.
